Despite a tumultuous year of allegations, the red carpet rolled out to an enthusiastic bunch of Hollywood’s finest. It attracted a sell-out crowd of around 2,400 people, including the likes of Suzanne Somers and Palm Springs Mayor Robert Moon and was expected to raise $2.5 million for future festival programs.
Though he hoped for honorees to speak on cinema, Gala Chairman Harold Matzner offered his insight on the impact of a movie like Wonder Woman (for which Gal Gadot was recognized with the Rising Star Award): “The incredible popularity of the film reflects the fact that the world is ready for more powerful women and the end of unequal pay, sexual misconduct and a stubborn glass ceiling…”
