The General Patton Memorial Museum dedicates tank in memory of Harold Matzner

On Veterans Day, November 11, the General Patton Memorial Museum held a special Veterans Day ceremony.  As part of the event, the museum dedicated a tank in memory of the late philanthropist Harold Matzner, whose contributions to the desert community continue to be celebrated.  The tank is called “Hear the Roar.” The event also included a remembrance ceremony, a  flyover courtesy of the Palm Springs Air Museum, and a performance by the Coachella Valley High School marching band. You can see more on NBC Palm Springs.

The Matzner Tank Pavilion opened eight years ago on Veteran’s Day in 2017 at the General Patton Museum in the Coachella Valley. The Pavilion is named after philanthropist Harold Matzner and features a collection of tanks and armored vehicles from Patton’s era and later. Visitors are welcomed to view World War II operating tanks, a 2-1/2 ton Cadillac, a Japanese Artillery Gun, a M-60 turret, and more. You can even climb inside the driver’s compartment of that M-60 tank.

The General Patton Museum, located an hour east of Palm Springs in Chiriaco Summit, California, aims to promote peace by honoring the sacrifice and service of our veterans while educating the public on modern U.S. military history through the interpretation and preservation of artifacts from major conflicts of the 20th and 21st centuries.

Our brave veterans are one of the many causes that were close to Harold’s heart.
