The Palm Springs International Film Society’s ShortFest showcases hundreds of the best in short films every year. Not only does the festival give out Oscar-qualifying awards, but it serves as a breeding ground for education and networking for filmmakers and industry professionals.
In addition to the short film programming, ShortFest offers many resources for filmmakers including panels, roundtables, industry insight one-on-one sessions, and networking events. Some of this year’s sessions focused on taking a short to a feature film, financing films, and building a career in the film industry. Over 100 filmmakers attended just for the forums, and 252 filmmakers scheduled networking meetings during the festival!
“We hope to learn everything we can, even if it’s something we already seem to know. It’s always good to know more or know it better,” ShortFest participant Ian Hughes told the Desert Sun
Former ShortFest filmmaker Caroline Falls said, “Palm Springs is unique in the way they put attention and love into every short they choose. The programmers know what they’re doing by selecting the most interesting and unique films. It’s really uplifting and exciting to exchange emails with the director of this or the sound person of that, or ‘I loved your film, let’s keep in touch.’ We’re all reflecting off each other and that’s what was so useful.”
We’re looking forward to seeing this year’s filmmakers at the Oscars- and in whatever they pursue next!
