Brazilian models, dancers, and a fire-eater greeted the 200 attendees to the Muses and Patroness Circle fundraiser inside the Pavilion at Toscana Country Club.
From the pale green signature rum drink “Brazilian Beach Bums” to the tall centerpieces topped with colorful feathers, beads, and masks, every aspect of the gala reflected the Rio! theme.
Representing the McCallum were June Benson, Liz Chambers, Judi Cohen, Mitch Gershenfeld, and Jeffrey Norman. Event chair Sandy Woodson welcomed the revelers, and thanked Marge Dodge and Terri Neuman for chairing the silent auction.
Muses president Linda Weakley thanked the sponsors, reiterating that all funds raised support the McCallum Theatre Institute’s educational programs which service 40,000 students annually. Dodge and Neuman were silent auction co-chairs.
Major event sponsors were Harold Matzner, Jean B. Viereck, Donna MacMillan and Jan Salta. Also on hand were former McCallum president/CEO Ted Giatas, past Muses presidents Travis Erwin and Sandy Hill, Palm Desert City Council members Van Tanner and Jan Harnik, and Rancho Mirage Mayor Dana Hobart with his wife Vicki.
Epic Entertainment provided the fast-paced entertainment that kept the dance floor hopping. After dinner the formal show included capoeira, samba, and other Brazilian style dancers. The show’s finale included the audience participating in the Limbo stick and a conga line.
